"The body is a transformative entity, one that can oscillate between extreme opposites; we are open to choices, whichever the environment. In this dance of opposites, we decide who and what we want to be. It is up to us" (JdV, 2016)

Choreopop (work in progress) in Come together #3 picture

Last week's showing of Choreopop at Frascati, as part of Come together #3 was an absolute blast! Both Chai Blaq and myself would like to say thanks to Andrea Bozik, Nicole Beutler, BAU, Eva Vilanueva and Keren Levi (as well as ICK) for such a wonderful event.

Here is the first picture that has been published of Choreopop.

Taken by Marjolein Vogels, this is a picture of the reworked version of Kowareta (duet part of Choreopop).

Stigma at N8 (museumnacht)

As part of the program of Museumnacht in Amsterdam, a preview of Stigma was presented Saturday 5th november with great response from the audience.

Thanks to ICK and to Van Eesterenmuseum for their support and the opportunity to share the work with an audience.

Stigma will be premiered October 2017 at De Meervaart, Amsterdam.

And a little teaser:

Trailer Distinguished Dreams #3

The Nederlandse Dansdagen (Maastricht, 7th, 8th and 9th October) is approaching fast and I am right in the middle of the rehearsals for Atari and Kowareta, the 2 short pieces I am creating in collaboration with Chai Blaq

Here is the trailer that was shot the day of the Kick off of the project. Things have changed quite a lot since then... come watch us in Maastricht!

Kowareta preview at Parcours festival Maastricht

Sunday 11th September, Kowareta will be shown as an exclusive preview of the program Distinguished Dreams #3. Kowareta will be premiered at (and produced by) the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2016 (Maastricht)

Below you can find a link to see a short clip on the Instagram page of the Festival as well as a couple of links to the Nederlandse Dansdagen and Parcours Festival.

Kowareta is Japanese for "broken". The duet (a collaboration between Chai Blaq -musician- and Jesus de Vega -choreographer-) presents the two performers both as the individual fragments that form this unusual "band" as well as the glue that connects the separate sounds (and movements) in order to form a song.

The premise for Kowareta is a simple one: merging the separate elements in order to arrive to a new fully formed image/sound. Their individuality magnifies the beauty of their connection.

The sounds of this piece include: beats created from micro sounds taken from Jesús' body, Michelle's live and recorded voice, and a selection of analog and digital sounds (chinese recorderharp, synth, bells, etc.) stored in a drum/sample pad.

Choreographer at Distinguished Dreams #3, Nederlandse Dansdagen 2016

I am one of the three choreographers that will pair up to collaborate with three very talented singers/songwriters. We will create 2 short and unique performances per couple. They will be shown the weekend of the 7,8 and 9th October in Maastricht as part of the Nederlandse Dansdagen.
